Habitat for Humanity

is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operating on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities, and hope.

Who We Are

Alexander County Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1998 by a group of dedicated people located here in Alexander County. At the end of 2021 we have completed twenty-four homes in the county; additionally, we have completed critical repairs on sixteen homes. Our goal is that everyone should have a safe and affordable place to call home. The Alexander County Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes, by advocating for fair and just housing policies, and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. Habitat for Humanity welcomes all to build with us in partnership, without discrimination, on the basis of race, religion or ethnic group. "The Bible teaches that God is the God of the whole crowd," explains Millard Fuller. "God's love leaves nobody out, and my love should not either. This understanding drives 'the theology of the hammer' around the world, steadily building more and more houses in more and more countries." Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated over 250,000 houses with families in need, becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing.
